Inner Chill Cryotherapy is excited to bring the healing power of cold – Cryotherapy – to Asheville and Western North Carolina. Cryotherapy has been used in Asia and Europe for decades as a method to help the body heal itself. Now it is being recognized in the United States for its use in battling inflammation, improving athletic performance and recovery and improving overall health.
Cryotherapy is the use of nitrogen gas at extremely cold temperatures for a short period of time. Whole Body Cryotherapy participants enter a cryosauna, where nitrogen gas is used from the neck down to super-cool the skin for up to 3 minutes. This triggers the body’s natural healing response.
Local cryotherapy uses a stream of nitrogen gas to target specific areas of the body, such as knees, ankles and lower back. It is also used on the face and neck to provide CryoFacials™ - a way to boost collagen production and tighten skin.
Inner Chill is pleased to offer Whole Body Cryotherapy, Local Cryotherapy, and CryoFacials™ to our clients. We look forward to meeting our neighbors and helping people feel better, perform better, and look better.
History of Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy was developed in 1978 by Dr. Toshiro Yamauchi of Japan to battle rheumatoid arthritis in his patients. It effectively reduced the inflammation, pain and soreness caused by this condition. From Japan, cryotherapy moved to Europe, where it is widely used and accepted by patients and physicians. Since then, studies have shown that cryotherapy is beneficial not just for inflammatory conditions, but for athletic performance, recovery, and overall wellness.
How Whole Body Cryotherapy Works
Participants stand in a cyrosauna with their head and neck above the sauna. The rest of the body is inside the sauna. The sauna uses nitrogen gas to lower the temperature within the chamber to cryotherapy temperatures (-90° Celsius to -120° Celsius). At these temperatures, the body sends a strong signal to the brain to protect itself in case the temperature continues to fall. The body’s response is to make sure it’s core organ temperatures remain stable.
The body constricts, and blood from the extremities is sent to the core to protect vital organs. While in the core, the blood is cleaned, oxygenated, and enriched with nutrients, while the brain tries to identify weak areas in order to stabilize itself.
At the end of the session, the user steps out of the cryosauna. The cleaned, oxygenated blood makes its way back throughout the body, and the healing processes begin to target weak areas identified by the brain. Every individual is different, and has their own response to the process.
Our Cryosauna is made in America, and delivers consistent cryotherapy temperatures throughout the sauna.
Guests choosing local cryotherapy will experience a refreshing stream of pressurized nitrogen gas to targeted areas of the body, often to reduce inflammation and pain. During a CryoFacial(TM), nitrogen vapors are directed over the head and neck. This process stimulates collagen production and decreases pore size. This experience makes the skin tighter and more even-toned. It also increases blood circulation. Over time, skin elasticity improves due to the increase in collagen production.
